The sign above the entrance at ATT's Place in Fairmont says "Best Dogs in Town". We see this saying a lot. Will ATT's live up to the greatness they proclaim on their signage?
Located across from the old East Fairmont High School, this location used to be a very popular lunchtime excursion for high school students. Like most high schools back in the day, East Fairmont had an open campus, allowing their juniors and seniors an opportunity to eat somewhere other than the dreaded school cafeteria. It was called B&L back then, and it was always packed out with high school kids from 11:00 - 12:30 on school days.
Fast forward to today. Open campuses are a thing of the past, East Fairmont High School has moved out of Fairmont, and B&L is now ATT's Place.Even though so much has changed, the restaurant itself looks almost exactly the same.
ATT's has a nice selection of standard lunch fare on their menu including hamburgers, pork barbeque sandwiches, pepperoni rolls, french fries, etc. They even have some great daily specials like home fried potatoes on Mondays. Hot dogs are their main draw however and their prices are awesome. A hot dog with everything is only $1.20 and a chili bun is a mere 85 cents!
For lunch today, I had two hot dogs with everything, one chili bun with sauce only, and a chocolate milk. My bill, including tax, was only $4.88 - much better deal than Panera Bread too.
The construction of the ATT's place dog follows the traditional local formula of a boiled wiener on a steamed bun with mustard, onions and chili sauce. The chili comes in mild, medium, and hot varieties with the hot running a solid 8 out of 10 on my heat index. It's not unbearably hot, but it does require at least one chocolate milk to cool the fire. ATT's also offer a slaw dog but it is a nickle more.
